Registered Office Rules for a New Private Limited Company

Every company registered in India must have a registered office from the day it is incorporated. Founders often treat this as a formality, but the address is where official notices go, and getting it wrong can delay incorporation or cause problems later.

What documents you need

You need proof of address (a recent utility bill in the owner's name) and a no-objection certificate from the property owner. If the premises are rented, keep a copy of the rent agreement as well.

Can you use a home address?

Yes. Many founders start with a residential address, as long as the owner gives a no-objection certificate. You can shift the office later by filing the change with the Registrar of Companies.

Display and stationery

Once incorporated, the company name, registered office address and CIN must appear on letterheads, invoices and the website, and the name must be displayed outside the office.
